Could Not Save…

Recently I have had problems trying to save images, the sort of thing that I have not encountered before. I open a new image (from my digital camera that has been downloaded to a file on my auxillery hard drive). I open the image (lets call it 1234.jpg), make a few changed (crop, rotate, curves, etc.) Then I try to use "Save as" to save the image with a new name (for example newpic1.jpg). I get the warning message: Could not save as "E:\…\…\newpic1.jpg" because that document is currently open. Save using a different name, or close the document and try again.

I know the document is open, I am trying to save it with a new name. Photoshop is treating it as if I have already saved it. If I close it, I think I will lose all of the changes I have made.

So, could I have some preference pointed in the wrong direction? (I have checked the preferences under Edit but can’t find anything obvious). I have looked in the manual, checked my how-to books and the like, but just can’t seem to find the problem and the fix. I just want to be able to save the image with a new name.

Thank you for your help on this.

Have you checked to make sure the file is not write protected?

No. It’s an odd problem, reported here frequently. Adobe have been unable to reproduce it. I have also experienced it, and it makes no logical sense.

Some have indicated that the issue is related to the psicons.dll and that renaming the file helps, but the price is that Photoshop Docs no longer display the photoshop icon in explorer.

Myself, my workaround is to duplicate the image (Image|Duplicate), then close the original without saving. Then PS saves it without incident.

Peace,
Tony

I have a similar problem with Photoshop 6. I down load a photo, make changes to it and try to save or save as. An icon appears saying ‘could not complete your request because of a program error’

Am I doing something wrong. Can someone suggest a remedy. Please can some one help

I’ve just overcome this problem by saving FOR WEB in the Fil menu…………

What an irritation!

Also, the last time this happened was because I had removed the car from the card reader before saving the photos.

Is it possible that a program can retain bad links from pas mistakes??
