I wish to use a digital image of a net curtain shadow on a white wall as an overlay. How do I remove the white background in favour of a transparent one?

Also if I scan an image I get a white background. Is there a way to make this transparent. (same solution as above?)

Thanks…

You can delete to transparent on any PS layer except background layer, and you can rename this one to a new name, and then you can make it delete to transparent with magic wand, eraser, delete key, etc.

If you scan, you will have to delete the white as above.

I’ve never used that plug in, but here’s a technique to try that works very well.

Make sure your background layer doesn’t say background – alt-double click on it if it does so that it is named layer 0.

Duplicate the layer, and be on the duplicate. Double click on the layer to bring up Layer Style options.

In the middle of the dialog that appears, find Knockout from the advanced blending options. Set it to shallow.

Next, look at the sliders. There are two, we’ll work with the one called "this Layer". On the right it’s white, and it has a slider pointer underneath it. If you look closely there’s a hairline split on that pointer.

Hold down your alt key and grap the left part of that right slider and split it apart. Watch your image.

The ranges of white you specify with that slider will blend to transparency.

Once you’re satisfied, accept the dialog. Now you may want to "stamp" that layer, to merge this new image onto a new layer. To do that…

Creat a new blank layer, then hold down your alt key, and keop the alt key held down while clicking and holding on Layer|Merge Visible. The trick with this is not to release the mouse button like you normally do while clicking layer in the menu – just keep it held down.

That should blend out your white.

Peace,
Tony

Using Adobe PhotoShop CS and trying to complete this task. Can anyone help???

I am trying to take a logo from my company’s website that I saved as a JPEG and using PhotoShop to remove the white background that came with the logo when I saved it to my computer from off the company’s website.

I want to remove the white background from the logo and just keep the logo itself without any background. Then I want to take this new logo(the one without the whit background) and use it on videotape project I am making using Adobe Premiere 6.5

Thus, creating a little logo on the lower right corner of the screen so when people watch this video they know who created it.

Thanks for all your replies.

you’re better off recreating the logo in vector. ESPECIALLY if it’s going to go to (potential) clients.

Is this your own company’s logo? Surely a vector version exists somewhere.

No, it’s not my own company…..so, the only way to get a logo is off the web.

With that said, any help to answer my problem utilizing Photoshop?

Thanks for your replies

You were just given most of the answer in the other thread you’re posting in:
Match the background to a JPEG.
Or use GIF, if Premiere honors transparancy in GIF as does a web browser.

Also, PSD and TIFF can preserve transparancy, but the app it’s going into must also support it, don’t know if Premiere does or not.

you had started a separate topic:
"How to create a transparent backgound???"

Also, there is a Premiere forum, and the folks there probably have handled this question alot.

Sounds like you got it working though…good for you.

Ok as for the logo in the left hand corner. That can definitly be done in Premiere. It is very easy.
As for the quality of the logo it really doesnt matter because the logo has an embossed look to it therefor could be substandard quality like a web image.

If you are unsure as how to do this technique go to wrigleyvideo.com and download their tutorials. There is one just for this effect.

Good luck
