I have been making sports posters for my daughters soccer team.( I am sort of a rookie at this.) I make selections and drag several photos onto my background add a few special effects and print. Everyone is amazed, I have a few questions though. I have an Epson 2200 printer that I print 13×19 prints on.

1 What is the best book to buy that can teach me about special effects in PS CS, or does anyone have a book out on sports special effects?

2. What is the best selection tool? I use the magnetic lasso most of the time. Any tips on how to select hair?

3. Where can I get large psd files printed (poster size). Someone had mentioned Kinko’s to me.

4. What are some good fonts to use for this application (sports Card / Poster)?

Thanks to all who take the time to help me!

For #2, look at the Extract tool [filter]. This can give good results on this type of selection.

For #3, when your image is done, you will probably need to save it as a JPEG [but only when it’s ready for printing!] to give to the likes of Kinkos.

There is no best selection tool. Some are better for some things etc.

Have a look at the tutorials on the Adobe site and also www.russellbrown.com (some really good stuff on Extract for hair among others).

How to Cheat in Photoshop by Steve Caplin is full of all sorts of goodies for compositing images but it doesn’t do step by step beginner level techniques. I think there is a new one out or coming out for CS.

Check your library or bookstore for the Photoshop WOW book
