Are there any problems associated with upgrading Photoshop 5.5 to CS? I assume that there is no need for the intermediary versions, but just wanted to make sure….

David, I am a newbie and saw your question. I inferred from the sales data that one had to have Photoshop 7.0 to "upgrade" to Photoshop CS. It says that the upgrade works from 7.0 to Photoshop CS. Others with more wisdom may weigh in. Only a thought…

Yes, you can upgrade. Just make sure you read the system requirements. They’ve changed quite a bit since PS 5.5.

David, this information from Adobe website. Bob may know better.

"Adobe Photoshop CS Upgrade
To install upgrade successfully, you will need a licensed version of Photoshop 7.0 or earlier on the same platform as this purchase."

Carol – 5.5 is earlier than 7. That is what it means. Bob does know better.

Duh, missed the "or earlier" so intent was I on being concerned about the upgrade. Mea Culpa.

Carol,

For future reference. Adobe has never cared about what earlier version you own. You can upgrade to PS CS from Photoshop 2.5 (the first Windows version)

Bob,

That doesn’t seem to be the case. I have Photoshop 4 Ed and attempted to upgrade to CS. When I load CS it says I need to be at Photoshop 5 or higher. The box just says Photoshop 7 or earlier.

Thinking of calling customer support but I don’t suspect that will solve my problem.

It WILL. CS only recognizes 5 and above but you are entitled to upgrade from ANY previous versio

The installer won’t recognize an older version, but Customer Service will give you special instructions to get your software installed.

I called them up and got PS CS installed. Thanks for the advice.

I’m a happy camper now.

RE: "I have Photoshop 4 Ed and attempted to upgrade to CS."

So glad I read this discussion. I, too, have 4.0.1 & tried to find out if I could buy the upgrade or if I had to buy the full product. I contacted the company using the website because I thought I’d get a quick answer. They sent me the link so I could order on-line. DUH! I can figure that out myself. I’ve spent 5 hours searching for this answer! (DSL is not available in this area yet. Dial up is slooow…) Now I know I can buy the upgrade. Thanx to all of you for your posts.
