We have CS running on Windows 2000 Professional and a Windows XP machine. Photomerge works fine on the Windows 2000 machine. However on the XP machine, after we choose the images, line them up, and hit the button to have the images merge, the machine crashes. It does this both with auto merge and when we line the images up manually. The XP machine is a quicker machine than the 2000 machine and has more memory and free space. Any advice would be appreciated.

what do you mean by crashes? does the whole computer go down?

first go into my computer> properties> advanced> startup and recovery> settings and uncheck the auto restart. if the system still reboots or freezes you have a hardware error. if it "blue screens" it’s probably a driver.

xp is a process isolated OS (as is win2k) an application can not bring a machine down. hardware errors or bios problems (or very buggy low level device drivers) are the only things that will restart an xp or 2k box.

Debbie,

It totally crashes the computer, shutting it off completely.<<

Definitely sounds like a hardware problem. Most likely a bad RAM stick, though could also be a bad CPU, Bad cables/HDD/Controller or a BIOS problem
