When I am using photoshop 7.0, I find some problem in the ¡§save for web¡¨ command.

When I open some image (such as the classic Ducky.tif of sample images), I change the background layer to layer zero, select part of it and deleted it to transparency. Then I save it as gif by ¡§save for web¡¨ command, but I find when I open the new gif file again in photoshop, the transparent part cannot be shown.

I know it will still be ok in web design software, but the problem is when I use other files (also Tif) and do the same operation in same setting, the transparency can be shown in photoshop.

I check almost all setting but I can¡¦t find the difference between this two files, and have same result when I use png-8 format.

Anyone can give me some advice on this issue? Thank you.

I just did the same thing. Opened a new file, saved with transparency with Save For Web, and then closed. I then opened it and the transparency was still there.

Are you sure you are not saving normally when you close the file, and this overwrites the save for web version?

yes, in most case , it is work as u described, but in some files, the transparency part of the gif file can’t be shown.

And one more strange thing is the Gif file i created in version 7.0, the transparency can’t be viewd in 7.0, but when i open the same Gif file in verion 6.0, i can see the transparency part!!!!

really don’t understand what make it different.

I know it is not very important, but i don’t understand why different files have different performance in same condition.

anyway, Thanks for Don’s reply.

get it!!!

I find the problem is, if u set the file info of a file, there is an option abt the copyright, and below is a blank line u can type in some note for copyright, in Ducky.tif, it is "eyewide inc." , it should be a note about the company own the copyright.

Strange thing happen! if u delete this note, and save again, the transparency would be shown! i try it on other files, if i add a note at that position, then the transparency would be disappear and become white.

I think it is a bug.

anyone have comment on this issue?
