I have read several tutorials on the net about creating seamless textures. However, I don’t want my texture to have a fixed color palette on it, which can be pasted everywhere it applies. I want it to apply to any image like the Photoshop textures Craquelure, Grain, Sandstone, Canvas, etc.
How do I do this? What initial colors should my original texture image have?
Thanks!

….

Make your texture grey, create a layer filled with the pattern on top of the image you want to have the texture on and set the layer mode oft the pattern layer to soft light. Experiment with other lighting modes and with the opacity of the pattern layer as well. You might get a more convincing result if you apply the pattern as a displacement map on your image additionally.
