I’m trying to install Photoshop 8 onto a new computer (Windows XP sp2) and get the following error message:-

Set-up has experienced an error.
Please do the following:-
-close any running programs
-empty your temporary folder
-check your Internet connection

Then run Set-up again.

Error code -6003

To overcome the problem I opened the Task manager and closed all running programs.
Used disc clean-up to empty my temporary folder.
I have nothing wrong with my Internet connection but am using the windows firewall.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

On what hardware, specifically? It’s important.

And also do this (from Adobe)
1. Quit all applications.
2. Choose Start > Run, and type msconfig in the Open text box. Click OK.
3. Click the Startup tab, and click Disable All.
4. Select any startup items that are essential for testing the problem. If you are unsure whether an item is essential, leave it deselected (disabled).
5. Click OK, and restart Windows.
6. Try installing again.

Regardless of the outcome afterwards,
1. Choose Start > Run, and type msconfig in the Open text box. Click OK.
2. Click the Startup tab, and click Enable All.

You don’t by any chance, have Norton AV do you? Or any other Symantec/Norton product?

NAV, StopZilla, and even SpySweeper have caused a few hangs on installations, but I don’t recall any recent ones with Adobe. Going back several generations, Norton was "death" on almost any installation. In recent years, it seems to have gotten better, but I find that about any non-OS specific stuff on the Task Bar is bad news.
