Levels and Curves – Image Doesn’t Match Preview

In Photoshop CS, if I make adjustments to either levels or curves (with preview checked) and then click OK, the values change so that the final image doesn’t match the preview.

I find this behavior a significant failing of Photoshop CS. Photoshop 7 did not behave this way. Does anyone know why the preview in levels and curves has this problem, and is there anything I can do about it?

Make sure you are comparing the preview window to the image at a mag of 100%.
