Hi all,

I don’t really want to go to the expense of ‘digimarc’ and am wondering, if I place some diagonal text across my image would someone be able to download the image and then remove the text ?

Cheers

Mick

That would certainly be possible. But the point with copyright is, that when someone is able to remove it, he/she doesn’t gain the copyright. That still belongs to the person that owns it. Whether a succesfull fraud is established or not.

Thanks for the quick reply rob.

My problem is this, i am selling someone elses products (official reseller)and they have given me some images to use on my website with their permission. I have spent days editing and resizing the images and i dont want another reseller downloading and using them on their own wesite.

I cannot claim the images are mine, but the editing work is mine.

Im sure the manufacturer would not mind me watermarking the images but im not sure where I stand legally ?

Cheers

Hi Mick,

There will be always the chance that someone "steals" the image, but as I state, they wouln’t have gained the right to use them.

When the chances of selling the product increases by posting the images on the internet, I wouldn’t worry too much about the (presumably) smaller chances that their copyright is violated.

When it is, in fact, violated IMHO it doesn’t matter who’s work is stolen (your editing, or their foto), since one can’t seperate them.

Hope this helps somewhat,
Rob
