I’m a Photoshop beginner. I’m on a friend’s computer with Photoshop 7.

I want to do something very simple. At least it should be.

I have a 1×3 inch graphic in jpg format.

I want to place it into a larger image and be able to move it around, place it, and add text to make a logo.

I can’t see any command that will let me do this.

Placing seems like it would be a choice, but jpg’s aren’t a choice. Importing seems to only deal with devices.

I tried selecting and copying and pasting the image, but when I put the 1×3 inch image onto a 4×6 inch image, it makes it very tiny and there’s nothing to select to enlarge it.

I have a book called photoshop at your fingertips 7 that has hundreds of pages of tasks, but nothing on how to add a bitmap image.

HELP!!!!!!

Thanks, Doug

File->Open. Use the move tool to drag the image from one window to the other.

Free transform. Help file.

The reason for the size difference is that the two documents have different resolutions. It wouldn’t matter what method you use to put one into the other.

There are several ways to do what you want, but Copy/Paste and then using Transform to resize is probably your best bet. But what is the final use of the file? That makes a big difference.

Thank you! The resolution made the difference. Copy/Paste of the selection worked, and I made the resolutino the same, then found the tool to move it. I guess I shouldn’t have been working so late…

Ultimately I want to turn this into a sew-on patch for a shirt.

It changes the print size because your 4×6 image is a different resolution than your 1×3 image.

You can enlarge it easily using Edit->Transform. Be aware that this will degrade the quality. You can not enlarge a pixel-based image without degrading its quality.

I think you will probably find that it looks very bad when you do this, as its resolution will be quite low.

No one should be embarassed to ask a question here. Terrified, yes, but not embarassed.

Next time you have a question, just pretend you’re going next door to borrow a cup of sugar from Freddy Kruger. 🙂
