I want to save something I’ve made as a .jpg but when I save it, it changes the colors. For example I have a color of Red: 190, Green: 204, Blue: 204. However, when I view the image on the internet or any program outside of Photoshop, it turns to a light greenish grey color. I am not sure if it is converting them to web colors or what it is doing. Thanks for your help.

I am using Photoshop CS and am running Windows XP Home and a Dell XPS with 512 MB of RAM.

mjboa,

Seems you ARE getting WEB colours. It’s best when setting up web colours you set them to 256 colour within PS. PS gives this ability as does IReady.

Try using IReady and the "Optimised Feature" set to 256 colours and this should sort your swatch out. Could also be you MAY need to save as GIF. if you expand on what you’re trying to do it’ll help you’re reply.

Regards

I am trying to show an image I plan to slice as a .jpg. If I view the file with any other program or on the web, the color changes. However, when I open the .jpg in Photoshop it shows the colors normally. You don’t have to use 256 colors to save on the web, right? Every image on the web doesn’t use web colors if I am not mistaken so how can I make my images not do this? The weird thing is, the color it changes it to isn’t a web color so I don’t know what it is doing.

Try converting to sRGB before saving as JPG. It’s about the closest thing we have to a web colorspace.

I am using the sRGB ICC profile when I save it.

Here is an example of the color change.

This is a screen shot with the .psd file on the screen showing the correct color. <http://www.limitedzero.com/test/test.jpg>

Here is what PhotoShop does to the image.

MJ,

Perfectly NORMAL. Within Photoshop you are viewing in a colour managed environment. Outside of Photoshop (with a few exceptions) you are not.

Set your proof setup to monitor RGB and Select View>Proof Colours. Then you will see the same within Photoshop as you will see in a browser.
