Win98, PS7, PM7 Here’s an odd problem. Our annual Catalog created in PM7 has many product shots. The tiff’s from last years catalog which we have placed in this years PM doc seem to have been corrupted –bits of the products have been sliced off the top (very small, hardly noticeable). I mean literally the pixels (for example the top bit of head on a figure trophy) have shifted in the tiff clipping bits of the image. It can be seen in PS when tiff is opened and in the PM doc and of course when printed. It seems to be only the files picked-up form last years doc (they looked/printed fine last year) the new products look OK.
This is how the product shots were made: I made a selection of the product, made a layer, rotated it slightly, used the layer effects to make a drop shadow. I made a clipping path 20px outside of the shadow. I flattened the PSD file and save as a tiff. The original PSD files look fine so I can go back to them and start over.
On our printed piece the problem is evident, my Art Director and I need to solve this mystery before it reoccurs.
Thanks for any help.

There was a problem with LZW TIFs saved with Photoshop 7.0 which was fixed with the 7.0.1 patch. Does this apply here?

I currently have version 7.0.1. Not sure, but I think I was using PS 5.5 last year during the catalog production. I did not use any compression.

I just reread your message. Why did you create a clipping path?

I think the idea was just so products could be moved closer to one another on the PageMaker page. More organically placed as opposed to having the rectangle tiff.

Without seeing the files, I’m guessing that the clipping paths are cutting off the image.

Can you post a link to a PDF with one of the problem images?

Not really sure I can do that. Don’t have a site. Can send PDFs.
