Please help. I don’t know if this is possible in CS browser.

I have a folder with about 150 or more images with random filenames. I have arranged them in a certain order in file browser window. Is there any way to renumber them or rename them in a batch so that the order remains the same i.e. custom?

The batch rename function works outside of the browser window and just renumbers the files as they are in the folder and not as i have arranged them. This is driving me crazy as it takes me over an hour to rearrange the images. Yes, I can export the cache but for some reason the cache got wiped out during a reinstall of the program and I have to do it again. This would also be useful in other folders for me.

Thanks

Primus, I just tried it out on a small group of pictures in the PSCS browser and it seems to work like you want. I just moved a couple of pictures around to different places and they remained in the order in which I placed them. Try on a smaller group though before you attempt the larger one. I screwed up royally on one group by getting rid of the extension. Then nothing showed up and I had to manually add a .tif to each file.

Thank you, I already have it and I agree it is indeed awesome. I am not trying to rename files in a folder. I am trying to arrange images in a folder in a particular order through file browser of CS. I can only do this in a sequence after looking at the images. Yes, the slow and tedious way would be to individually rename each image serially after arranging them in order. But when you have 100+ pics, it gets tedious, not to mention the need to do it for several folders.

Just wondering if there was a batch rename for what’s visible in the browser.

Not sure if I have managed to convey what I need.

In the Browser window, drag the pictures into the order you want. Select all (Ctrl+A). In the Browser menu: Automate > Batch Rename > Follow the instructions in the dialog box. Voila!

Thanks John:

Works like a charm. Guess what was missing in my reasoning was the select all command.

Glad to help. Of course that means if you select only a few out of many, only they will be renamed. Cheers – John
