Chris,

If you use Norton Utilities or SystemWorks, look to see if you have Norton Protection enabled. This may be obvious from a renamed Recycle Bin, but a look at the properties of the Recycle Bin should show if Norton Protection has been enabled on any of your drive partitions. If so, purge the Norton Protected Files and then disable Norton Protection on all drives. You can do this with Photoshop already open and immediately observe a performance improvement if Norton Protection was the culprit.

Regards,

Daryl

Chris,

I thought I just told you how…maybe you just need some more detail?

1. Right-click on the Recycle Bin and select Properties.
2. Select the Norton Protection tab sheet in the new dialog window
3. Select Empty Protected Files.
4. If you have multiple hard drives or partitions, select each of them in the Drive Settings are so as to identify if each has the "Enable Protection" box checked. If so, uncheck it for each drive/partition.
5. Select OK to close the window.
6. See if PS performance is better now.

Good luck,

Daryl

Stupid is as stupid does!

I have been restoring some old photographs (I normally use Photoshop 7 for simple "Flat" graphics that are converted into another program for finalization)- After I complete my work and have the pics developed, I am told that the resolution is too high. I have lowered the resolution significantly as well as used the presets for 4×6, 5×7, and 8×10…..WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

No idea what the other program is complaining about (but it doesn’t sound like much of an app).

At any rate, simply reduce your pixel dimensions to make a file lower rez, regardless of print size.

Check resample, leave constrain proportions on, and simply put in a lower pixel value for one side.
