Just got a new G5 and reinstalled Photoshop CS2. When I click on a tool in the toolbar, such as the lasso, it brings up all the options on the lasso (regular, magnetic, etc…) Normally it should only do that if you hold down or right-click on the toolbar, not if you just click it. It happens with any tool that has additional options. Anyone know a remedy for this? I can recall this happening before. However, I can not remember how to fix it. It’s driving me bonkers! Thanks in advance!

I don’t know about your program but I had a similar kind of problem with Photoshop Elements 3. I had to uninstall the program and then go in and find Photoshop files that the uninstall did not remove. I manually deleted them and reinstalled the program. Works fine now. Somehow, the leftovers from previous versions corrupted the installation of PSE3. wrote in message

Should have gotten a PC – no, just joking. I don’t get to say that too often.

First place I’d look, before you uninstall/re-install, or even try trashing your prefs, is the sensitivity of your "double-click" on your mouse. Is the G5 new to you? And the mouse? It sounds like the GUI thinks that you are double- clicking the icon.

Most of all, good luck, and please ignore my PC comment, as it was just a lame joke,

Hmmm. It was a fresh install. However, I can’t get anything else to work so I may try to reinstall. I have messed around with the mouse to no avail. Thanks all for the sugestions. If anyone knows anything else I’m all ears!

You mentioned that you reinstalled? Let me emphasize that my uninstall left a lot of stuff on my drive that was part of the program and caused me problems when I upgraded.

Hi. No, it was a FRESH install on a new G5 with the full version of CS2. That’s why I’m not certain it’s an installation problem. I had the same version on an old G4 that did not have this problem. At first I thought there was a conflict with the Logitech mouse driver so I uninstalled it and I’m just using the basic OSX control panel. Didn’t work though.

I use a Mac G5 and the tools respond like they are _supposed_ to, that is one click and I get the currently selected tool. I have to hold the mouse button down to be offered the little selection menus. Do you by any chance have a non-Apple mouse like a Logitech? If so you might check any separate system preferences that you have set for it. Also, if you can borrow a mouse from someone else see if it exhibits the same behavior. If you do a complete reinstall be sure to delete the existing preferences file in: Users/(your user name)/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings. Better to rebuild all of that rather than leave a possibly corrupted one on your drive.

trash your preferences file. adobe recommends this and it is known to solve many, many problems. i run cs2 on a g5 power mac and have never seen that happen. and i’m using a dirt cheap, non-apple, 2 button, optical wheel mouse with 10.4’s driver…no problems anywhere. is the tool bar glitch the only problem you have had?

Hi. Thanks for the tip. for some reason it has stopped now. I have been installing other software so SOMETHING happened. The only glitch I’ve had besides that one is when I am using a lasso to subtract from a selection I loose the cross-hairs. A strange, but much less annoying glitch.

P.S. Thank you everyone you responded. Must have just been one of those computer poltergeists.

Glad it is OK now. I don’t know what I hate more, a problem that will NOT go away, or one that does, and I have no idea of what caused it, or what fixed it…
