I am trying to type on a path, in Photoshop CS, ,and the path is a circle. It takes a couple of minutes before anything happens and then as I type some of the text falls over to the side or some letters look like they are top of other letters. It ends up a jumbled mess around the circle.

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Steve, I have noticed the same thing. I read somewhere on this newsgroup that if you keep the info palette closed things might work better. I did that and I think it smoothed things out but I haven’t been back to that task to really check it out. It might be worth a try. I don’t know why it should work.

Steve, it sounds like you need to reset your Character palette to default, for one. But, I am another user who is seeing type on a path taking forever.

That was the first thing that I tried (reseting the character palette), but it didn’t make any difference Nick. The letters are still at all kinds of angles, etc.

Steve, it’s beyond me, then. Hope you manage to get it straightened out.

I have been able to type on a circle path made with the vector tool, but it just won’t work right changing an elliptical selection into a path.

Doesn’t seem to be too many with ideas, so I’ll just stick with the vector shapes. Thanks for trying Nick.

If changing a selection into a path, the path won’t be very smooth, and can cause issues (performance and character positiong) with type-on-a-path. Zoom in and take a closer look at the path and you’ll see what’s happening – the selection gets estimated as a bunch of small path segments, some of which are flat. You can play with the tolerance to see if you can get better results.

You will be better off if you use the path tools to create a nice smooth path manually, though.

Scott,

Is this system dependent? I have a laptop that creating a circular selection by Ctrl-Click or creating a circular selection with the Marquee tool and converting that to a path works fine. On my desktop, it doesn’t. I get the exact same thing as Steve and it’s consistant with a circular selection to path. I can see what you are talking about, but since Anti-aliasing is on, I would think something like that would take care of it. Your work around just makes a few more steps, but it has me wondering what the differences are in some default or setting.

Tony…
