When I save or flatten a psb file the color is changed in small rectangular sections of the various images in a composite image. Specifically, a small rectangular area randomly appears and changes the color of the image in which it is located. white or transparent areas within the rectangle are usually unaffected. this problems appears consistently on 2 files I am working on, which are 28200 x 12300 pixels.

at first, I thought it might have been my computer, but it appears frequently and the rectangular areas move around the image. my computer has 2 gigs of memory, 10 gigs of one of my hard drives is partitioned specifically for an unused scratch disc. I am using windows xp with a pentium 4 3.0 processor, an advanced graphics card, and plenty of hard drive space via 2 striped raid 80 gig hard drives and another 120 gig hard drive. consequently, I do not think this is a computer problem.

can you post a small sample (cropped of course) of the colored rectangles?

Here’s a note from chris that indicates this kind of behaviour might be a hardware problem…

If you zoom in and they go away, it’s probably the video card.

If you zoom in and out and they change, it’s probably bad RAM.

If the image looks fine, you save it, then reload it and it’s corrupted – then it’s probably the hard disk.
