there has to be a way to only install photoshop and not to install image ready…as usuall tech support is no help. I can not understand why adobe did not put a custom install on the cs product. has anyone gone through and trashed image ready?, if so which components? so you don’t screw up PS? Every other photojournalist I know is fighting the same problem with cs.

<Mac User>You should just be able to drag the ImageReady folder to the trash. Yeah, it’ll leave a few registry files behind, but they shouldn’t cause any problems.</Mac User>

Someone should be along to tell you how to fully exorcise it and all associated files from your hard drive.

But, while I agree there should be a Custom Install option, why get rid of it? Is your hard drive so small that ImageReady can’t live there happily? Or do you have a philosophical disinterest in what ImageReady does?

Just FYI: If you ever want to put examples of your images on the web, there are things ImageReady can do during the compression process that can’t be done in Photoshop’s Save For Web. Something to think about…

Phosphor, thanks for your insight. The "techs" said it would disrupt PS’s functionality to trash image ready. I guess I’ll give it a try…I can always re-install everything if it messes it up! And yes I have little HD space, this is on a older laptop, on my desktop work station it does not matter.

For images destin for the web I use FotoStation I’m use to it from working with it in Europe. Hey it also has a much better IPTC workflow program than PS.

<shaking head> and LMFAO.

imageready.exe is a 19 meg file. you’re a fool if you delete it to save 19 meg.

If you have that little harddrive space you’re in big trouble anyway. Either get a new harddrive or a new computer. Deleting one program isn’t going to help.

Phosphor…If you see this I’d like to report good news! Another journalist has a friend that is one of the PS developers, I got the list of items to remove from the files and programs to delete Image Ready, which totaled 79MB.

And here’s a thought for dave and bob…if you don’t have an answer to a posted question why reply? RJ

Well, I do agree.

A bigger hard drive is in order here.

Because Photoshop and the files it creates require a lot of harddrive space. If 79 megs seems like a lot to you then you really need to look at increasing your storage space.

I’m sorry if you took it wrong, but I stand by the advice.

Give him a break. What’s wrong with wanting to clean your hard drive of a program that you never use? I have often wondered why I had to install Image Ready to use Photoshop.
