I just finished formatting my HD and installed PS 7. When i tried to run the program, I got this error :

"the application C:\pogram files\adobe\photoshop 7.0\ACE.dll is not a valid windows image.. check it against installation diskette".

I then tried to uninstall PS 7, and i then go this error:

"internal error, unable to load or call external DLL. please contact your vendor for more info".

what do these errors mean and how can i fix them. any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance

Chad,

I’m not sure if it was ACE.DLL, ACELIB.DLL, or both, but there is a support knowledgebase topic on that which, among a few other possibilities, associates that problem with having WinAce installed. If you do, then you might try uninstalling it to see if that resolves your problems. Before doing that, you might try a search first in the support knowledgebase.

I had The exact same error.
I do not have winace installed.
The computer was just upgraded from Win2K to XP Pro.
Photoshop 7.0Me worked just fine on Win2K, and now its
giving me these strange errors.
Also tried to install it on a different drive, to no avail. And as far as I searched, there is no Knowledgebase topic on this issue.

Any help would be great!!!

Thank you.

So… have you reinstalled Photoshop? It’s reasonably painless since it does not overwrite your preferences.

The other thing is that, in general, the rule of thumb with upgrading OS’, is to format then install the upgrade. Some people think that you have to upgrade OVER your existing OS. Not only do you not have to do that, it is not recommended because wierd gremlins from Redmond, WA come out.

Not knowing how you upgraded, I offer the above for consideration.

Food for thought anyway…

Peace,
Tony

Thanks for the tip,
but this is not the case. I had all 5 hard drives
(including system of course) formatted before installing XP. after the XP installation I installed PS, and then the problem started.

I really need to get working here!!!

Anyone??
AnyThing???

Jeeze, this is a pickle. A quick google search of ACE.DLL shows that it may be related to Illustrator 9.0, but that doesn’t seem like it’s so pertinent because your error message is pointing to the Photoshop path. Do you have Illustrator? Maybe try uninstalling it?

I’m stumped. Hopefully someone else will see this and offer help.

Peace,
Tony

Guess What???
Just looked into my Photoshop 7.0Me folder,
and ACE.dll, amongst other .dll files, is 0Kb in size!
Well, I will try to copy these dll files from a working
installation of PS, But I can’t see it working…
Is this the case with you also, Chad?

keep investegating!

And post #11 is ALWAYS too logical, obvious and simple that it flies under the best-solution-radar.
