I have selected an area of a image with the magic wand that I want to delete, but when I press delete, I don’t see the changes to the image, but on my background copy in the layers pallette I do see the change on the small thumbnail.

What am I doing wrong? …Newbie

Thanks in advance!

Kevin

What do you mean "background copy"?

How many layers are there, and what is on them?

and which layer is active when you press delete?

I opened a jpg image, then I dragged the layer to the new layer button to make a copy and this was the active layer I was working on.

There are 2 layers.
Thanks

Of course you couldn’t see it deleted. You were looking at the same image on layer right under it.

OK, so if you delete a section of the "copy" of the background, you will still see the same thing from the original underlying layer. Turn the visibility of the background layer off to see what I mean.

Why must you copy the layer?

Edit: beat me to it Bob

Use only the original(Background) (No Copy dragging) Double click on the Background and the background changes to a layer. Now you can do it.

You don’t even need to do that.

Deleting on the background layer will replace with the background color which is white by default.

Assuming white is what you want, not transparency.
