loading plug-ins in CS – takes so long

I have just installed Photoshop CS and copied the plugins from my old PS7.0 plugins directory to the CS plug-ins directory. At least the ones that appear to work. My Extensis plug-ins seem to screw things up. Now it takes almost a minute to load CS – it used to take about 15 seconds with more plug-ins.

Is there some way of getting new versions of PS to recognize plug-ins that have already been installed? It is very time consuming reinstalling them all.

why should CS take so long to load? is this normal?

any ideas would be helpful.

please search the forum. this has been discussed multiple times over the last week.

what it boils down to is only copy the 8b* files into the plugins folder. and write to extensis to fix their installer.

I’ve had my PS-CS for about 3 months. The plug-ins amount to 223MB, being 3095 files in 225 folders. The pgm loads in 35 secs, about 10 secs slower than my PS 7.01 which is still on my two machines and used occasionally. I’ve been getting worried lately why I do not have any problems with my CS and wonder what’s wrong. Can anyone help?

Sure. Get autofx and dump about a gig of crap in your plug in folder and you’ll have slowdowns in no time! 🙂

why should CS take so long to load? is this normal?

In previous versions of PS, it was common to put all third-party plugins in the PS plugin folder, including all the plugin executables and support files. PS CS now scans all files in the PS plugin folder, including all files that do not end in .8*, causing a noticeable delay during startup. Moving all these non .8* files out of the PS plugin folder speeds the startup process, but plugins like Auto FX can’t find the support files if they are moved to a non-PS plugin folder. Auto FX plans to release an update to resolve the performance problem. If you are having problems with other thrid-party plugins, contact their technical support to see if they plan to release an update for PS CS.
