As CS is starting to load the program, I get 3 error messages as follows:
1. PDFL50.dll Not Found
2. Could not load Fastcore Routines module because it does not work with this version of PhotoShop
3.Could not load MMXCORE module because it does not work with this version of Photoshop.
After closing out each error message, the program loads and seems to run fine? Why am I getting these messages? I am running on a PC, with Windows XP. I also have PS 7 installed as I have just begun to use CS.

Vaugn,

At a guesss you have nominated Photoshop 7’s plugin folder as a secondary plugin folder for CS. Doing so will mean a conflict between the built-in plugins of 7 and CS.

If you are doing this to enable 3rd party plugins for both versions, you need to move the 3rd party plugins to their own folder and nom, inate that as the additional plugins folder for both versions.

Vauhgn,

It sounds as though you have copied some or all of your plug-ins from PS7 into the PS CS installation path. If so, you have inherited some native plug-ins that were version-specific and which now have overwritten those for PS CS. I suggest you reinstall PS CS to clean that up, and perhaps even delete the plug-ins directory before hand to ensure that occurs…while I’d expect a PS CS reinstall to overwrite older files with newer ones; I’m not positive about that.

While it will often work to transfer previously installed plug-ins from a prior to a newer version of Photoshop, you need be careful to ensure it is only the 3rd party plug-ins that you copy over. A better approach is to place those plug-ins into a separate directory that each version of Photoshop can identify in the preferences as a secondary plug-ins path. I suggest such a directory be placed perhaps at the Adobe directory level.

Edit: I overlooked specifying the PS7’s plug-in directory as a secondary path. As Len mentioned, that too would have the same result.

Regards,

Daryl

If the earlier suggestions don’t apply, did you happen to install CS in the same folder as your earlier version?

Bob, you are correct in that CS is in the same folder as PS7.and PS6 plugin folder. They are all in the Adobe folder. Is that what you mean? Should I delete PS7, then reinstall CS if I still get these messages? Thanks, Vaughn

Vaughn,

Bob is asking if you’ve installed the apps into the same folder. That is, are both installed directly into "Adobe", or are they installed into seperate sub-folders in the Adobe folder? (a "Photoshop 7" and "Photoshop CS" folder). If they are installed into the same folder, you need to uninstall and resinstall each into their own unique sub-folder.

If they are already installed into unique folders, you should follow previous poster advice and ensure that your "Additional Plugins Folder" prefernce isn’t set to an earlier Photoshop version’s plug-ins folder. (Edit | Preferences | Plugin-ins & Scrach Disk). You also don’t want to copy a previous version plugins (or move the entire folder) into the Photoshop CS plug-ins folder.

Vaughn,

Is that what you mean? <<

No.That’s not what Bob means.

Do you have an \Adobe Photoshop CS sub-folder that has the CS application and components in it?
Do you have an \Adobe Photoshop 7 sub folder.?
Do you have an \Adobe Photoshop 6 sub-folder?

If the answer to the above 3 questions is "Yes" then they are all installed to their own folders as they should be, and your problem is likely to be the one I addressed in post #1
