I have been using Photoshop layer effects for a while now. I add effects to the layer and then am able to edit them with the dialog box. However, that feature has suddenly stopped working. Now when I add an effect it shows on the screen (i.e. I see the drop shadow appear), but the dialog box no longer shows so that I can edit the type of shadow, color, etc. This is the only dialog box that doesn’t appear anymore, with the others still showing up on my screen as usual.

I just recently used the dual screen monitors and clone screen for the first time. That is when my problems started. I’ve already read the FAQ and saw the question about the dialog box disappearing and what to do. I have attempted their suggestions several times now. I hooked back up the dual screen and the menu is not on that side. I also tried just increasing this screen to its fullest on this single screen – as they suggested, and its still not there. But again the rest of the dialog boxes show without problem. I also tried resetting the palettes, multiple resolutions, restarts, etc. I’m at a complete loss on what to try next. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JJ

It seems that the only thing you haven’t tried is to reset Photoshop. Try that. <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/6712.htm>.

Thanks Barry and Madsen – that did the trick. I looked through my preferences, but never thought of resetting them. I really appreciate the help!

Thanks again,
JJ

P.S. For forum admins, just a friendly suggestion that you may want to add this as a third option in the FAQ about the dialog box. Again I had tried everything in that document and it wasn’t enough until I tried what the board members offered another solution. Just a thought 😉

A fine idea.
