Greetings All,

I searched the forums but could not find this topic.
I upgraded my Windows 98SE laptop to Windows XP. It works well probably because I had MSFT tech support step me through it.

My question is my XP OS is still working with the Fat32 System instead of the newer NT system. I am not sure what PS CS needs out of Windows XP.

I thought I would pose this question here in this forum before I go out and purchase the CS upgrade and find that it may not work.

Thanks in Advance,

DeeDee

I upgraded my Windows 98SE laptop to Windows XP.

Sorry regulars, but I gotta ask.

How was that upgrade done? If it was upgraded ontop of Win98 you’re likely to have problems. If it was a clean install you should be okay.

And you should convert to NTFS. Recommended for numerous reasons in general and for PSCS by Adobe. About the only reason to keep FAT32 is if you want to have a multiboot Win98-XP setup.

Thank you for your replies. Actually, I was expecting to have problems, but have had none so far and it’s been several months now.
When I bought my laptop, Me had just come out and I was given a free (or almost free) coupon to upgrade to that. That turned into a total disaster and I quickly reverted back to 98SE.

This time when I decided to try XP, I called MSFT and spent about two hours on the phone with them every step of the way.

Yes, it was done over Win98SE. I removed all of my data off my laptop, but left the programs there. I figured I would have to reconfigure my 802.11b wireless, etc and even that worked right away.

I was thinking that because I am still on FAT32 that PS CS may not work, but I am glad to hear that it does. I hear that NTFS is more reliable and stable than FAT32 and if I don’t buy a new desktop in the near future, I will buy a larger harddrive for my present one and do a clean install with XP. It sounds like I will have to use my oem Win98SE from my desktop and then pay a license fee for my Win XP upgrade, otherwise I’ll have to pay something like $400 for a new version. Anyone know?

I also bought a Canon 10D and some really nice L glass lenses for it, so the built-in RAW feature will be nice too. I had to hack my own RAW plug-in to get it to recognize the 10D, but it works great now.

Thank you again,

DeeDee

If you buy a new harddrive, you can use your current XP CD. Just use the 98 CD as verification when asked for it.

You don’t have to pay for anything.
