Can anyone answer this question.

I have a Xrite Pulse Color Elite System and I am trying to print the test patches for scanning.

When I print the patches the print driver gives me a choice of the following paper types, Plain Paper, Premium Glossy Photo Paper, Premium Luster Photo Paper, Premium SemiGloss Photo Paper and Proofing Paper SemiMatte.

What should I choose if I am printing on Epson Archival Matte Paper? What about Wrag Weave or any other paper that is not listed here?

I know how to tell photoshop what paper I am using as I have downloaded the correct profiles from Epson’s website but in the printer options dialog I only have the choices mentioned above.

Thanks for any help

Andy

I’m familiar with the 1280, 2200 and 4000 but not the 1800/2400 series, sorry … but based on the list of papers you mention it’s possible (just a guess) that you have two flavors of black ink and the flavor in the printer at the moment is for the glossy papers while you need the other flavor for matte and fine-art papers … just a guess but this is similar to what happens with the 2200 when you have ‘matte black’ instead of ‘photo black’ loaded, only a subset of the paper types get listed by the printer software since it doesn’t want you printing on certain papers with that black.

Just a guess … maybe check which black cart you have loaded and see if the manual lists only certain papers for it.

Andy, here’s a quote from a review of the 2400 … based on the paper options you’re seeing I’m pretty sure you have the ‘Photo Black’ cart installed and to create a test patch for the Archival Matte Paper you’re wanting to print on you’ll need to switch this out to ‘Matte Black’. This is similar to the 2200 except you can print Matte paper with the Photo black (just not as well) but can’t print glossy papers with the ‘Matte black’ ink … here’s the actual quote …

"the R2400 provides two different black options, Photo Black and Matte Black. Providing separate black formulations for glossy and matte papers allows Epson to deliver true blacks for any type of media. Unfortunately, what they don’t provide are separate slots inside the printer for installing both cartridges at the same time. Like the 2200, the R2400 requires you to switch black cartridges any time you want to change from matte to glossy paper."
