Batch processing, I forget

Hi Everybody:

I know this is a rather easy answer for someone,
because I actually used to know how to do this myself,
and I remember that it was easy,
but
I forget how to do it.

I think there is more than one way to "skin this cat" so to speak, with and without using "actions"

whatever is easier…

OK…
Lets say I have downloaded some 40 different samples of textures to be used in Lightwave, small swatches of .bmp’s that look like little pictures of marble, steel, wood, water, clouds, and so on.
Just that the format I downloaded them in was .bmp, and to use them in Lightwave they all have to be .tga (targa) files.
So, instead of me opening every single .bmp, then going to "Save As" and then saving each one as a .tga, I’m pretty sure there is a way to change the whole file of 40 from .bmp to .tga without having to go through each one individually. I think it’s called "Batch Processing" …

How would I do this?

Thanks You in advance….
Bruce

Yes, I noticed a lot of public domain 3D models include TGA textures. You should write Lightwave and request they don’t be so picky about graphics formats. I mean, even a free 3D animation application, Anim8or, will accept several different formats.

😀

Anyway, to answer your question, why not batch convert them with Irfanview? http://irfanview.com

Watch out for transparencies!

why are u opposed to creating an action and then "batching" from there? just create a simple action that saves your image as the file type specified. then go to automate/batch….and run that action on you folder with all your bmp’s in it. Very easy….and quicker than waiting for a response from here 🙂

although if there IS a way to do this without involving a plug-in or other program….i would luv to hear it

Um, possibly, because I don’t have Photoshop?

🙂

Oh, and before you ask what I’m doing in a Photoshop group, well, I enjoy helping those who author free graphics applications, that’s all.

no prob uni…but my question was meant for bruce…why is HE opposed to running an action. if he has PS…it would take more effor to dowload or purchase another program or plug-in whilst he already has the tool that he needs.

just MHO

Not only, you are here and on other groups because in the real world nobody wants to be close to you.
Don’t bother answering you’ve been in my killfile for ages.

Funny how I escaped! Most people who are less intelligent than I do filter me.
