Early Photoshop History

(excerpted from Jeff Schewe’s article in PEI, February 2000)

· Thomas Knoll’s early (1987) precursor to Photoshop was called ‘Display’.

· later, it became ‘Barneyscan XP – version 0.87)

· early (February) 1990 – Photoshop 1.0 released for Macs

· The first Windows version of Photoshop was V 2.5

· the beta versions of V. 2.5 were known as Merlin – for Mac and Brimstone for Windows

As an olde phart, I’d like to point to the authors’ parents, in particular the father, Glenn, as an early influence. He was a photographer, had a darkroom in the house as well as Apple computers.
