Activation error weeks after activating

After having my full retail version of PScs installed (and activated) for a few weeks, I got an error (I must paraphrase, I can’t replicate) like "activation can’t find a necessary file, please uninstall and reinstall this application".

This was not on startup, but after I’d had PScs running for several hours. It was minimized at the time. It closed PScs when I closed the error window (I’m glad there was no crucial image running at the time, it didn’t ask to save), and started back up fine without reinstallation.

What’s going on, and should I reinstall anyway? Has anyone else had this problem? This could seriously ruin someone’s day if they’d done a lot of work on an image since their last save.

Only posting to put it on top.
Nelson: I remember when you started your site. Did some work then just to get it running.

possibly you (or the system) ended the adobe license manager?

I would go ahead and re-install – there won’t be any harm in it, and if it was because something on disk went slightly funky, it will help fix it.

Do you have an approximate amount of time that the app was up and hidden?

Scott:

I’d say probably 8-12 hours. Honestly, I’d forgotten I had it running until I got the error.

I’ll see if I can’t set up an experiment this weekend, but it’ll be a tricky thing to reproduce.

I was wondering, I know there’s a grace period for non-activated installations. Perhaps at the end of this period PS checks to see if its activated or not, and for some reason it got messed up for me?

Just a theory.

The whole activation issue never bothered me in the slightest, but if PS is continually checking to see if its activated I have to wonder about the CPU cycles it uses up.

You have 30 days to activate.
