hi,

Recently I got problems that the brightness of images shown in photoshop workspace is darker than images i saved.

It seems that the gamma of photoshop software envirement is different with monitor.

I have try to adjust the gamma setting in control pannel. However it is not helpful.

Has anyone meet it ever?

Yes, this problem has happened many times. If you are using an LCD system, Adobe Gamma will not work correctly for a system using an LCD. If you have a CRT, then use Adobe Gamma’s wizard to set your gamma to 2.2. —

Aw, Curvemeister, I’m so bummed! I had planned on getting the monster Apple flat-panel.

I am playing with the idea of buying an LCD, Mike. But you have changed my mind just now. What do they do for calibration? I assume calibration can be expensive on a LCD

Gimme a break, you guys 🙂 Before I single handedly change the tide of the display market, LCD’s have come of age for quality work, it’s just that Adobe gamma doesn’t work with them. There are problems getting accurate color with notebook displays, and the less expensive, analog driven LCD’s. On my notebook, I use a product called liquid color, which does a good job of making even an inexpensive LCD behave much more like a CRT.

The higher end flat panels, specifically the digitally driven ones like the Apple Cinema and Eizo, are completely suitable for fine work, even though Adobe Gamma doesn’t work well with them. Here’s an interesting article by Ian Lyons about the Apple Cinema.

Several other manufacturers make excellent LCD displays that cost considerably less than the Eizo or Apple. In fact high end CRTs are becoming harder to find. Do be careful as many people have been disappointed with the usability of LCD displays in Photoshop. Dell makes a good digital LCD display, and there is the Samsung 214T, and others.

When my Nanao finally bites the dust I’ll be switching to an LCD. —
