How do I change the colors in a photo of a room to correlate with samples of paint colors given to me by a friend who wants her place painted?

select the walls. use a hue saturation adjustment layer. check the colorize box. move the sliders til you get a close match. it’s going to be tough to match exactly, but you should be able to get close enough to give you an idea of what the room will look like.

Lorraine,

But tell her that the the only real colour matches will be those that the painter does when making paint proof patches in the walls for her to see the effect.

That’s a pretty usual thing for painters to do, at least around here.

It basically doesn’t work to color a room with a particular RGB value in hopes of discerning how it will look. I would suggest looking at an image of a room painted in one color. When you scan around with the color sampler you will find a huge range of values by virtue of light source, shadows and reflections. My day job is remodeling and as Gustavo suggests, we paint swatches on the wall.
