Hi!

I am wanted to create one JPG that is a "collage" of different photos, some overlapping. Would I use layers for this? If so, is there a good tutorial?

Thank you,
Brian

While creating that collage, you could use layers. However, that is only during the intermediate period. JPEG does not support layers, so if you need a JPEG, you cannot have layers at the same time.

Brian,

Yes, that is the place to start. Each image would be placed on a separate Layer, and then sized using Transform>Scale. By using Layer Masks for each Layer, you can do cropping, etc. This file will NOT be JPG while you work on it, even though the elements might be JPG, when you bring them in. I’d Save the image as a PSD, then Flatten (also removing any Alpha Channels, Paths, etc.) and Save_As JPG, when done. You can always go back to your PSD if you need to make changes.
