Hi there, i have scanned a picture of mine but it has a piece torn off so its white where there should be color. now i can get another picture like it off of the internet and need to copy a piece of the one off the internet to my original. Ive looked on google and have found out to use the pen tool, but once ive selected my section that i want to copy/paste onto the original it doesnt do anything. the part i select just turns light blue and when i paste it into the original all that appears is the shape, not a picture in that shape. please tell me what to do or give me a complete newb tutorial. I have photoshop 7

First, you could use the clone stamp to fix the white area.

The pen tool could be used to create a selection, but it’s a little tricky. When you select the pen tool look in the options bar towards the left. There are three buttons. Choose the one that says Paths, and then you can trace it with the pen tool. Then you have to Load Path as Selection from the Paths Palette. THEN copy, and then paste.

But you may be just as successful with the Lasso tool to create your selection. If you’re not familiar with paths, frankly, it’s a better choice, time-wise.

Peace,

ok now, well after more research i found what i needed and to copy/paste i needed the lasso tool. now there is a new problem when i paste the image it is very very small even though the picture i copied from is larger than the original so i need to know how to select the pasted image and modify its size.

once the pasted part is on a new layer, select crtl-t (free transform if you look it up in the help) to resize it. holding shift while dragging corners will keep the aspect ratio (width to height ratio).

thankyou very much, i have been able to complete fix the size and such. however now the colors are slightly off with each other (the internet pic and the scanned pic were of the same thing) and there must be a way to darken the off-colored to fit the grey of the rest of the picture. i was hoping of something where i sample a color and draw over the off-color area and it darkens it, doesnt complete a solid new color over it. so what does that?

crtl click the layer you want to adjust to select everything on it. now look at the icons on the bottom of the layers palette. find "adjustment layers". add what you need, most likely color balance, then crtl-click layer again and add, brightness contrast, crtl-click again and add hue/saturation.

between those 3 adjustment layers, you should be able to get it blended fairly well.

thankyou very very much, ive been able to alter the piece of the picture i pasted well enough changing the brightness now to just tediously change the brightness on many many letters.
P.S. Thanks

heh, i have just realized this too late but im sure it is really easy to do, in the picture i scanned (i edited) the lid was lifted because the object was thick so it counted the rest of the scanner as part of the pic making it grey, well it is now not the right size and the grey is all on 1 side, so ive selected it using the lasso but dont know how to delete it, i click delete and nothing happens. remember that i would like this completely out of my picture not just erased.
