Hello –
Hopefully I can ask a, probably, simple question. I am using PS to create some different text blocks to use as rollovers on a website. I am saving as PNG as I need the background to show through. The problem is, that I can’t seem to get the text to look sharp/crisp without it being really pixelated. What am I doing wrong? I’m using the font Trajan. Does it matter how big a canvas I start with before cropping? Should I start with a large font size and shrink the image?

I have no clue here.

Thanks,
Doug

I suggest using GIF format as all IE users cannot see the transparent PNG format, that means most users

Thanks – I actually import it into a Flash movie, so that doesn’t matter – only the transparancy. I tried GIF though, and still have the pixelating trouble. I have the feeling i just don’t understand what’s causing it (or i’d fix it).

Are you using Save for Web or Save As? If Save for Web, are you saving with/without a Matte color selected? Just wondering, but why are you doing the text in PS instead of Flash?

Most likely, you are not seeing pixelization; you are seeing a fringe around the letters, which is different.

Use File->Save for Web. In the Save for Web dialog, you will see an option called "Matte." You must set this to be the same color as the background in your Flash animation.

To get good text for the web, change the anti-aliasing properties (sharp, crisp, smooth, etc.) until you get the smoothness you desire. As someone else pointed out, however, you’ll do better creating the text directly in Flash.
