CS scratch size

I have an 85.9MB PSD file. When opened in PS 7.01, it shows the "Scratch Size" as 849MB. When opened in PS CS, it shows the "Scratch Size" as 1.48GB and takes much longer to open. This drops to 1.39GB when I don’t update text layers. I don’t have the History Log or File Browser background processing enabled. This file is just an example; I’ve noticed slower opening times and bigger scratch sizes consistently. Sorry if this has already been covered, but any ideas?
