File name gets cut off when doing a "Save-As" in Image Ready

I’m working with PS 7.0.1 and Image Ready where I need to resize images for e-mailing. I first batch re-name the images to a recognizable file name that may have as many as 30 charactors before the file ext. After I resize, I do a "Save-As", then add an "A" after the number sequence to indicate a resized image and Image Ready may cut off some of the file name, depending it’s length.

Is there a way to set a default to allow longer file names?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can turn off the compatibility in the Save For Web dialogue.

Save For Web>Optimize Menu (small arrow on right in center of dialogue box)>Output Settings>Saving Files> and I think you need to turn off the compatibility with Mac and Unix but I’m not sure.

I’ve been after Adobe about this for the last two versions of Photoshop to NOT RENAME WEB IMAGES. You can’t work on a folder of images that are already on the web and have the file names change by default. No web image program will sabotage a web designer like that.

Larry, thanks for getting back to me. I tried your settings and it did not work. Remember, I’m doing this in "Image Ready" and not the "Save for Web". I’m usually dropping the file sizes way down to e-mailing. "Save for Web" isn’t doing that for me. Any other thoughts?

SFW and IR…same thing…anyway, have a look in your Output Settings (File Menu) and uncheck Mac compatability. This setting truncates filenames to 31 characters.

Actually, I need to let Larry Berman know that I did get it to work for the "Save for Web". I didn’t take it far enough. I didn’t realized you could use that for the same thing and change the necessary settings to make it work for e-mailing.
