I have another problem. I am retouching
icons for an OS. I use PNG format to store them. I want them to have transparent pixels outside but it looks ugly, although I applied a feather effect to smoothen the border, but there are these ugly white pixels outside the logos when the background is a dark color. Does any one have a tip to turn this outline smooth and invisible whatever bgnd color I set ?

Looks like you need to learn about anti-aliasing…

But if it were an anti-alising issue, the outline would be the same color as the object itself, or am I mistaken ?
Because I deleted the pixels around the logos with anti-alising turned on + feather=2px …
Thanks,

Thanks,

You must set the background to the color that you are going to use for the background before removing it. In this case, #4B5370.

Otherwise, you will always have "jaggies".
