I notice that Photoshop CS takes over a minute (on a 2.8 ghz Petium 4, 1 gig of memory) while saying "Scanning for plug-ins". If I get rid of the AutoFX plugins then this step takes only a few seconds. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this.
Cheers,
fredrick

Get rid of them permanently. They stick a shitload of folders and files in your plugins folder.

Or re-install them externally.

Okay, my over-developed sense of humour and my under-developed sense of maturity says… "fix it by getting rid of them."

On the other hand, my magpie tendencies and the fact that they can make some lovely shiny pretty things says – reinstall them to a remote folder or run them as standalones. And do some computer maintenance, PC CS with all those goodies and many many more on a comparable machine here takes about 15 seconds to load.

Putting the AufoFX plugins in a separate folder whose name is preceded by a tilde will render the folder invisible to Photoshop and no attempt will be made to load the folder’s contents.
When you want to use the AutoFX plugins, remove the tilde from the folder name.
