Any suggestions for the best approach to achieving sterling results? I’m accustomed to my darkroom printing but have just purchased a digital camera. I need pointers on the best way to make a rich black & photograph.

Thank you!

If you are starting from a color image covert to BW with Channel Mixer, (Monochrome checked)
Curves will let you fine tune the density and contrast, point at a part of your image and see the little circle on the diagonal line in the curve window, drag it up or down, you’ll see what it does.
Then, as in the wet lab, Dodge and Burn carefully.
Printing is a bit of a problem if you use an inkjet unless you get good inks and paper.
Check Lyson.com and go to Quad Black Inks for example
