I have been looking to purchasing a new computer system that has Hyper Threading. Have been hearing that PhotoShop CS has problems running on systems with Hyper Treading. Also have heard that there are problems when a system has over 1GB of Ram. Can anyone inform me if they are using a system with Hyper Threading and if you had any problems?

Thanks

Using CS/8 on a XPh sp1a system, P4 2.60C HT chip,
1 GB DDR 400 RAM … no problems. I built my
own tower though, with an Abit IS7 board and
the RAM is on the compatibility list for the board.

There’s no issue on hyperthreading machines. THere MAY be an issue on machines with dual processors. Either way, it’ll be fixed, so I wouldn’t let it stop you from getting the machine you want.

Dan,

Thanks for your reply.

I also heard there was an issue when you had more then 1G of Ram installed. Do you know anything about that?

I have a hyperthreaded Pentium 4 3.06Ghz system, and Photoshop works just fine.

Mathew,

Thanks — that is great to hear. How much ram do you have installed? I assume you are using PhotoShop CS? By the way I am looking at the HP pavilion a450n desktop pc with Intel® Pentium® 4 processor 3.0GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology along with 512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory (expandable to 2GB). Plan to upgrade to 1GB.

Thanks

I have an HP pavilion zd7000 running Photoshop CS, 1GB ram, 128MB nVidia card, and it crashes whenever I free transform. I tried using photoshop 7 and it crashes less frequently, but it still crashes. When I say crash, I mean the whole system shuts down…power and all.
I this is my third computer from HP, and it still crashes.
dunno, that’s just my experience.

This is one of those horrible "me too" posts. I’ve had my zd7000 for a couple weeks now (1GB ram, 128 nVidia card) and it’ll do what I can only descirbe as a "hard" shutdown when playing video games. I’ve only played two games on it UT2004 and Unreal 2 and it has crashed during both. The system will just instantly shut off just as db described. I run Photoshop CS almost daily and have not experienced any problems though. If I find any additional info regarding the problem I’ll post it here.

On another note, the zd7000’s 17" screen is fabulous. The colors are the richest I’ve seen on a laptop. I love it.

As a follow up, I found that nVidia has a feature called PowerMiser in their advanced display setting. Setting this down to ‘Balanced’ from ‘Maximum Performance’ seemed to solve my power loss problem during gaming.
