I’m about to install a new CS on my computer, but the hard drive has been sounding a little funny lately. I’ve backed up the important data, but was interested in installing CS not because I want to play with it. I also read that you can install the version on tow of your machines if you are not using them at the same time. My question is, if I install CS, and then replace the drive with a new on and do a fresh install of all my software, with CS know that it is the same machine that it was installed on before, (Processor Id maybe?), or will it think it’s the second install on a new machine? I hope this makes sense to you, I would just like to be able to install CS on my lap top for when I travel, and my desk top for when i’m home. Thanks, Joe

Joe, even if you have to reactivate it when you install a new hard drive, it’s not a big deal. I’ve reactivated three times now (been doing clean OS installs to try to figure out some CS problems) and it hasn’t been a problem. So far I’ve just been communicating, by phone, with Adobe’s RoboWomanoid, but you just punch in some numbers and she reads some other numbers back to you.

I don’t know if you will get the definitive answer here but the activation key appears to be tied to the master boot record of the boot drive on which you install. So it is likely that it will appear to be a new machine if you replace the boot drive. If you have also installed on your laptop you may be refused automatic reactivation and have to speak to Adobe to explain the situation. Somebody posted recently who had done this and did not appear to have a problem.

Thanks guys. I assumes it would be covered with a call to Adobe, but it’s good to check. It’s not a cheap program and I want to maximize my investment.
