When I start Photoshop CS I get the error "The procedure entry point ??0sValue could not be located in the dynamic link library ExtendScript.dll"

I have searched the forums for the answer to my problem and have found a few ‘hits’. The answer seems to be that I have some version 7 plugins or scripts that are incompatible with CS. That was probably the case as I did copy over some of my scripts and plugins after the install. Removing them has not cured the problem though.

I have uninstalled / reinstalled twice using both options for keeping or deleting the user preferences. I deleted the CS directory after installing both times and also deleting the CS preferences folder in ‘Documents and Settings’.

Anyone got any ideas? I’m in the UK and telephoning Adobe support would be problematic.

I can’t solve your problem but Adobe has a local calls rate UK support number, presumably normal office hours: 0845 052 2222

Thanks Mick, don’t know why I couldn’t find that. I’ll have to try and get back home before 5:00pm one day next week (just phoned the number and they are 9-5 Mon-Fri). No point in phoning them from the office when the problem is at home 🙂

Sounds like you have some bad files installed, or a mix of old and new plugins (did you accidentally put the PS 7 scripting plugin in PS CS?).

Hello Chris

No, when I uninstalled (both times) I deleted the CS directory structure so all the plugins and scripts are those off the CD.

Then why can’t Photoshop find an entrypoint in the files that it ships with?

Because you have some files installed that it did NOT ship with.

That seems the most obvious answer but _where_? The CS directory structure was deleted before the re-install(s). I spoke to Adobe support yesterday and he didn’t have an answer but suggested that I uninstall again and to start the PC in safe mode before re-installing. This I did and it has cured the problem. Go figure. Before I uninstalled I checked the date and version of the Extendscript.dll file and it seemed to be around the same as the other CS files in the directory. If there is another file on my system that was incompatible with the Extendscript.dll then it will still be there as I only deleted the CS file structure.
