Have you checked out the Viewsonics? I have a G810 and love it ($439 shipped at Newegg). It has a slightly finer dot pitch than the Sony, but it doesn’t have a flat screen. For that, either the G220F or P225F would be a good choice.

Philips also makes some good ones. I’ve a 201B and it’s great.

Personally I think Sony is overpriced. If you like the display, then I’d look for their tube (the Trinitron, which is a good one as long as the 2 or 3 horizontal wires don’t bother you) in the monitor of a different brand. A number of brands use the Trinitron tube in several of their models.

I’ve been following all three of these monitor threads for a few weeks and have a Q about the Viewsonic models. I’m looking at the P90f and the P95f+, but I don’t know the difference in them. There seems to be a difference in the CRTs, but I don’t know what that difference is.

Can someone shed some light on this subject?

Thanks….

Gary

Sony makes great monitors, I have a 24" GDM-FW900 and it is the best one I have, I have a 19" Viewsonic and a 21" Nokia, the Sony is simply amazing.

Fine if you lie good, but overpriced monitors. Equally as good are the Iiyama range and at a better price.

Viewsonic’s website lets you compare any of their monitors within a series. http://www.viewsonic.com/products/product_finder_crt.cfm?key _crt_product_f amily=4
Check the ones you want to compare and hit "compare" at the top of the chart. On those two, it looks like there’s a difference in optimal resolution, color of the housing and one has the "ultrabright" feature.

That page doesn’t give nearly enough detail. I’d like comments from someone who can tell me what the difference in TCO spec means, what the difference in CRT type means. And I don’t know what the ultra-brite feature is good for. I’m in interested in using the monitor for photo work. In some places, they say one type of CRT is good for "graphics" work, and another is good for CAD/CAM. What makes one better for one thing than the other? Why wouldn’t I want a monitor used for photo work to be sharp as a tack also? Help a guy out here.

Thanks.

Ouch. I was looking at the UK new price on the E530 (£581.63) vs. the
U.S. price on the Apple ($1200-$1300). I don’t think the E530 is sold
in the U.S. The F520 costs more than the Apple LCD ($1,517.00 at <http://www.logicalplus.com/sonmulgd21in.html>). But the E540 is only $515.

You will be very HAPPY with it, period!

Until it breaks, like most Sony products inevitably do. I’ve given up on that company across the board, and will never buy another Sony product until they return their attention to quality control and manufacturing defect-free products that last.

I’m hearing the same sentiment all over the place. Read comments
e.g. from TV/monitor repairmen over in sci.electronics.repair.
Apparently Sony’s bean counters have gotten the best of their company. It’s a shame they now cripple such as great CRT with mediocre supporting components.

And it’s not limited to monitors or general computer equipment, either… I won’t touch anything with the word "Sony" on it across the board, be it a monitor, cordless phone, stereo component, gaming system, etc. Just too many problems…

It’s sad… their stuff used to be great.
