I am having problems opening files in 7.01. When I click on the file (tif) photoshop opens but wont open the file itself. The icons are also changed from the regular photoshop icon to a generic icon with some blue lines and a red "A" on the bottom. I do have the files set to open in photoshop via the properties command. I have installed and re installed photoshop 6 and 7 5 times in the last 2 days trying to resolve the issue. No good. What is the best way to remove a program? It seems like the "remove program" command in the system control panels does almost nothing. It leaves behind a bunch of files.

I am running win 2000 service pack 4. I am also a Mac user and I have to use Windows at work and I don’t know it as well as my Mac. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

PAT

try this pat… it’s for jpgs, but the same holds true for tifs and other file types:

If it can’t open a particular file, then most likely the file itself is corrupted.

The remove command from the control panel merely invokes the application supplied remove procedure. Therefore, if Adobe’s remove program leaves files around, it is Adobe’s fault.

Thanks, that worked. My icons are still not correct though. All I see is a white box with a blue banner that says "psd" in it, even though it is a tif. Like I said, at least it works now. Thanks again!

Pat….

You can change the icon as well…. in Windows Explorer go to Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types. In that view scroll down to .Tif and click on the Advanced button in the dialogue… at the top of the new window that’ll open is a Change Icon option… lick on that and it’ll open a window with icons… the path should be Photoshop.exe… choose the icon you want. if the path doesn’t point to photoshop.exe use the browse and navigate there…. or navigate to any other file who’s icon you prefer and use that. remember to do the same for the .Tiff as well….

Cheers…
