Hi,

I have just started learning photoshop 7 and I find it interesting. However I wonder if what I am learning will be useful if I decide to upgrade to Photoshop CS? Is there a big difference between photoshop 7 and CS? Is it really worth upgrading?

Thanks,

Richard

I’m sure others will chime in with more detail but for me the biggest difference was the increased ability to edit 16 bit files. If you don’t work in RAW mode from your camera then this probably won’t matter to you at all.

There are differences, but anything you learn in 7 will be applicable in CS with very few exceptions. Whether it’s worth upgrading depends on what your needs are. I’d say learn 7 first and gather info on the differences. Photoshop 7 is very very good. I like CS but have experienced slowdowns and such in Mac OS X which make it less fun.

Thank you for the information. I am happy to learn that what I am learning in Photoshop 7 will not be lost when I move to Photoshop CS.

i think if you are JUST starting out that you will have pleanty enough to work with with v7. If someone asked should the ugrade from say v5.5 to 7 i would say YES YES YES….cuz the there are some fantastic new features that really simplified things for the "average" user.

I use photoshop 7 both at work and at home..and have found no burning need to upgrade….
