When converting a TIF, BMP, GIF to JPEG, Photoshop does not preent the JPEG file type as an option in the "save As" dialogue box. Does anyone know why?

When saving a JPEG as a JPEG, it is there and allows resolution control and all that…… but not with any other file type. A real mystery to me, is it something simple?

Thanks, RG McClure

Be sure the properties of the image you’re trying to save match the capabilities of the Jpeg format, i.e: 8-bit, flat image, RGB-model and all that.

a jpeg does not have to be rgb. Well you can save as cmyk jpeg.

Randal,

JPG won’t be available if the file is in 16-bits/channel or indexed colour or bitmap mode

Yes, there is no resolution control when saving as JPEG, there is a compression control to allow you to vary the amount of compression you will save with.
