At focus this year I watched a Wacom rep lasso an object with a Graphire 3 tablet.

He was using Photoshop Elements 2.

I can’t seem to get the thing to do this in either PS5, 7 or Elements 1.0

Is this only a feature of PS Elements 2 or have I:

i) Not set the thing up correctly

ii) Not installed a vital piece of software such as a plug in?

Si.

I forgot to add that he then ‘nudged’ the lasso to expand the area under the lasso…

Si, I have a graphire 3 and it works just as it should in PSCS. Either with the pen or the mouse I can use the lasso to make a selection. Once the selection is made, there are several ways to enlarge (nudge) the selected area. Select>Modify>Expand and add a unit to expand by. Or you can use Select>Transform selection to change the size of the selection area. The selection itself can be moved by using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

No, I actually watched the guy push at the edge of the lasso area with the pen…he pushed the cursor at the edge of the ‘marching ants’…and the lassoed area enlarged as he did it, selectively, not all at once.

If you hold shift (I believe, but it also may be alt) while dragging with any selection tool, it will extend the selection. Is that what you mean?
