My daughter uses a Mac at college and a PC at home. She has the same version of Photoshop on both: 2.0 You would think .psd files would transfer but they don’t. What is the the technique, if any, to transfer these files?

Thanks.

Photoshop 2?! Does it run on coal? Files should transfer fine as long as the correct three letter extension is on them.

I’ll bet a nickel it’s Photoshop Elements 2. PS 2 was not coal-powered per se, but would run on any source of steam.

Image files should be sharable over the net with no problems. If she is getting a specific error message that would help isolate the problem. Make sure the file has a .psd extension so that the PC will recognize it. —

My feeble memory seems to tell me that the first version of Photoshop that was ported over to the Windows operating system was version 3. Wasn’t version 2 a Mac-only version?

Hi.

If it just that she has not added .psd to the file name when saving on the Mac, then she should be able to open them by using "Open As" and selecting "psd" as the file type.

If they still don’t open, and they are on a Cd, then she should be checking that the Burner on the Mac is set to use ISO 9660, (or whatever the number should be). It could also be that if the Cd is "Multi-session", and is not "Closed", it might be incompatible with the Cd Rom in the PC.

It is quite a while since I used a Mac, but transferring files to a PC, was often far from straightforward.

..psd files are universal and not platofrm dependent in any way. Any .psd file should work equally well on a Mac or a PC. To transfer the files, you must do two things:

1. Name the files according to PC naming rules. If you do not name the file right, it won’t work. In particular, make sure the name ends in ‘.psd’.

2. Put the files on a disk the PC can read. If you burn a CD on a Mac it will work on the PC if you use the default settings. If you put it on a USB drive or zip disk or whatever, make sure it is formatted for PC.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Regarding the version, it’s my bad. It’s Photoshop 9.0. Brain fart.

She can transfer image files such as jpg, tif, etc.

I searched on .psd in Explorer, found them (for example, frame1.psd), double clicked and they came up.

My problem only occurs on file name .frame1.psd, inside Photoshop, if I tried to open the same document, I get this error "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photshop document."

I suppose .frame.pdd is some special type of file used by Photoshop. We were confused because we saw just the .frame.psd in the open pop up window and didn’t realize there were also frame1.psd.

I think we’re good now.

Thanks again
