Perfect liquid Flash interface (try resizing your browser, all the content will auto resize/reposition, even the video). It uses split form image encoding techniques (on the loader) and has an alpha transparent, looping video clip (constructed using Paint Shop Pro and Adobe After Effects).

So uh…where’s the lil alpha transparent video project you were workin on? Of course, yer using a Mac…with Adobe Photoshop…and Macromedia Flash…so I can understand why its taking you so long. ^_^

Just remember:

Uhh, I don’t get it – I’m probably missing something here but:

Perfect liquid Flash interface (try resizing your browser, all the content will auto resize/reposition, even the video).

Isn’t this just one of the standard Publish settings for Flash? No code involved, Flash will rescale a movie to fit your browser window on the fly anyway, won’t it?

and has an alpha
transparent, looping video clip (constructed using Paint Shop Pro and Adobe After Effects).

Given that the logo/video stays locked in position against the background, wouldn’t it be more efficient to render the logo against a chunk of background (rather than transparent) and lose the transparency completely? That way you do the compositing at your end to save the end-user’s Flash player from having to do all that repetitive stuff. Might mean a marginally larger video clip I suppose, but the static background should compress down to next to nothing.

Wonder what sort of performance-hit you take for adding alpha-transparency video effects, over say plain old vector masking or no masking.

Genuinely curious,

Yeah but without the right settings and construction it’ll look like shit. Before Flash 7/8 it couldn’t be done at all with sites that had split form images and then you also need to use:
this._quality = "best";

And for the video you need:
your.obj.smoothing = true;

And enlarged video usually doesn’t work so good, which is why if you use animated video segments you need to construct them without backgrounds (ie alpha transparent video).

No, see above. If I used a solid background and then resized the video it wouldn’t look right against the other existing
background…unless you maxed out the quality settings, which would lead to a rather huge increase in overall site size. Using alpha transparent video allows you to save quite a bit on the overall site size.

What if you wanted the logo to move around though? Like what if I want to add in a transition effect? Or what if I wanted to have the background change…like what if I wanted to have it change depending on the time of day. So like if you viewed the site in the morning you would see a sunrise and then midday you would see the current background, then in the evening you would see a sunset and the at night it would be a starry scene. The point is that through proper construction you won’t limit what you can do later on. Most competent web and graphic designers will use layered PSD or PSP primer files in case

Vector masking only works if you want FLAT video. By using alpha-transparent video you can do a lot of neat 3D effects.

Oops, got cut off there.

Most competent web and graphic designers will use layered PSD and PSP primer files in case they want to change something around later on. If you just flatten everything onto a single layer you would have to reconstruct everything again from scratch if you ever wanted to make any changes.

That’s true, but you flatten everything before using for a site.

Um by the way, why are you including useless unrelated groups in your posts? I have to manually remove them all or my replies get bounced by my provider. It’s a pain!

Regardless, it’s a pain having to strip your sig on each post. Why do it? If you want people to read your posts and reply why go to the effort of making things deliberately difficult. I know you like winding people up (you’re good at it!), but I assume if you bother to write something in here you want it read? Or are you THAT bored 🙂

The Hatter is a simple troll who’s been begging for attention for a long time. You only need note the groups he favors, the confrontational way he writes and of course the juvenile .sig with a useless delineator to realize that. Ignore his taunting and he’ll eventually stop.

Your sig is too long to read. I get bored quickly, especially after seeing it a hundred times. (ok, 87 times, but that’s close enough).

But I’m curious, you intentionally broke the delimiter, why?

Just the opposite actually, my .sig delimiter, along with my attitude were specifically engineered to REDUCE the amount of overall attention that my posts get…I’ve tried the whole "nice" thing…it normally results in giant post explosions, thousands of emails and the kind of net.celebritism that quite frankly, I’m not interested in.
