The sad day has come. I run my computer today, started Photoshop and it doesn’t work. Now some facts: i run XP and PsP 7.0. When i launch photoshop i see splash screen, everything initializes and then… it just disappears after all is loaded and ready. Just disappears with no error or something. I reinstalled the program and it is still the same. Also tried to download
7.01 patch from adobe site and… nothing. It says that the file is
corrupted ( 3 times i downloaded it from 2 sources ) and update program quits. I use Norton Antivirus with newest upgrades and almost for sure i have no viruses. Does anyone had similar problem? if yes please help me – i need psp for my work and its really urgent. I would be grateful if someone could tell me how to fix it ( since today psp worked well so i dont know what happened 🙁 )… HELP!

A problem not unheard of 😉

Could be a font problem. Have you recently installed any new fonts?

You can check it this is the problem by looking carefully at what Photoshop DOES reach to initialise when loading up, and then keep an eye for a point where it stops initialising some specific feature. Like mentioned before, it could be a font problem. In that case you’ll see something like this happening:

"initialising / loading fonts…" followed by crash.

But it could be trying initialise / load something else than fonts before it crashes. In that case keep an eye and report back here if you find out where ps crashes, but can’t figure out how to solve it.

First thing to try is to find your Preferences files (program and colour). I cannot tell you where to look in XP, but others here can. Copy them to another directory, or rename them something that you will recognize, but will not be triggered by PS. Restart PS and let it write its own Preferences files. You can then go into Edit>Preferences and check all the changes that you require. Corrupted Prefs is often the first place to look, when PS won’t run, or acts weirdly.

I found that disabling the visual styles in xp for photoshop stopped mine from crashing a lot.

not sure if it could be the same thing
